2009 "H" less grill

I'm new. So, sorry if this question has been asked many times.

I bought my wife a new 2009 Azera a couple of months ago. I've been following this car since 2006. I liked the refinements and finally bought a GS with leather, sun roff, etc. option. Great deal.

I want to replace the front grill with an "H" less. Any experiences with a good source for a 2009 replacement? I don't know if all grills are exactly the same since 2006. How hard is it to do on a 2009?

RE: 2009 "H" less grill

Welcome to the forum!

Here's "a" thread, but it doesn't rise to the 2009 model...

http://www.azeraforum.com/showthread.php?tid=17

There are a couple of sites mentioned where you can look for the 2009 grille and see if the part number is any different from the earlier models...

Unfortunately, neither link opens. I do appreciate your quick feedback. I'll keep hunting. I'm glad I happened upon this site and hope to contribute.

RE: 2009 "H" less grill

IIRC these folks http://www.koreanautoimports.com/store/index.php?cPath=31_40 sold me the H-less Korean-market Azera/Grandeur grille, mudflaps, lower grille chrome molding, etc. for our '07. They also offer the 'Genesis'-styled grille for the Azera/Grandeur.

Easy conversion; I removed the bright trim so that the paint shop could match the colors with less hassle. Simple to pop the trim back on & install. Improved appearance & the quality is the same as the factory original, because it also is factory original... in Asia.

Best wishes with yours.

RE: 2009 "H" less grill

I'm totally frustrated. I tried to learn why need to order a color when ordering this grill for my wife's 2009 from Korean. I don't see where there is any color on the factory original grill. It makes me think it will not fil a 2009. And, as Korean only takes damaged returns, i don't want to be out the $150. I even called the person in-the-know doesn't take phone calls.

Help ! Has anyone changed to an H-less on a 2009? If so where did you order it? If from Korean, how did you pick the color required when ordering and why?

Sorry to keep at this. The car will look great with the plain grill and I'm giving it one more chance.

Maybe you can check with your Hyundai dealer to see if the '07-'08-'09 Azeras share the same part # for their grilles, or at least the shell that goes around the grilles.

Why a color choice? IDK, but originally, before I ordered our 'plain' grill, the folks at koreanautoimports had been importing them pre-painted in the factory colors. Probably that was just too much of a PITA to stock. Seems unlikely they'd be able or willing to go back to that practice, but maybe they've started it again(?). That's nice if you can get it already painted in your car's color; by the time I ordered, it was "black only". The body shop matched the paint on the grille & mudflaps perfectly.

Good luck with yours.

RE: 2009 "H" less grill

GREAT idea ! I'll do that.

The color thing I don't understand is the 2009 factory grill very much appears to be all "chrome" ... no color anywhere. That's the reason I don't understand why I need to pick a color to order it. Perhaps in previous years there was a color surrounding the grill. Perhaps checking the part number history with the dealer will help that, also.

Many thanks.

RE: 2009 "H" less grill

Amidst the rest of life, I confess I did not check out the '09 Azera's grille in detail. Her, from Hyundai's corporate worldwide site, however, is their description of the 2010 Azera's nose...
Newly designed raditor grille
chrome coated raditor grille presents sophisti-
cated though it has dynamic feeling with “H”
logo. Further, more slimed horizontal cross bars
at the grille are provided clear and elegance of
Azera’s new front face.”

Translation mistakes aside (their 'English' is still light years ahead of my 'Korean'!), it would seem like their 2010 Azera went back to just the chrome plastic trim pieces, instead of chroming the whole plastic grille. Sounds like they made the center H-logo standard for everybody also. Still, I'd recommend seeing whether the shell that surrounds the grille is the same as the '06-'08 models; I'd almost bet it is... right through 2010.

If you decide to go ahead & order an H-less grille, as far as "color" choice... pick one you like, or even one that matches your Azera's exterior color. Just don't be too surprised if it arrives in beautiful black anyway;easy enough to have it painted to your choice of colors. The chrome plastic lip trims do require some care in removal, to avoid breaking any of the molded-in retention clips, but it's do-able.

Have fun.

RE: 2009 "H" less grill

Hi J.R.,
I called my friendly Hyundai dealer this afternoon and the 2009 grill part # is different from preceding years. The parts person (very nice) couldn't tell me what changed. But, said something did. So, I'm going to keep surfing and hope someone smarter than me w/ a 2009 publishes a successful conversion. If that doesn't happen in a month or two, I'll probably just give it a shot using your new post and put out the results. I'm a little short on patience with some things, except our grandchildren !

Again, thank you for your very generous help.
John
