Does an engine come with a transmission or is it a seperate part?

New to car anatomy. If i buy a new engine does it come with a transmission? Is it attached to the engine or separate part.Because i noticed an engine costs less then a transmission so i was wondering if i just buy the entire engine does it come with a transmission.

An engine is like a power house or power converter. It gives torque at some speed this speed may not be useful for us so we use gear trains to get the desired speed. This gear is attached to an engine by means of a clutch, so there's connection between engine and gear. The gear system entirely is call a transmission.
