comparing a $30,000 Azera vs $30,000 BMW
"The interior quality is stellar, with fits and finishes and materials that put the new BMW 3-series to shame."

BMW 3 series is probably crap. I'm not suprised Azera's interior is so much better than a 3 series bimmer.
Not to be a dick... but have you ever owned a 3 series? If not, I'd love to provide you with some pictures, stats, and video of one in action.Originally Posted by Azera

BMW didn't get its reputation and following for producing "crap". There's a reason the 3 series is considered a benchmark for other automobile manufacturers.
And to claim the Azera has a larger interior than the 7 Li? I can make that claim with an econovan... but it doesn't mean it can hold a candle when it comes to performance.
I've owned 3 different 3 series, and currently own 2. E30 318i, E36 325i Dinan, E46 330xi. Make your own assumptions why someone would repeat their purchase of a manufacturer.
Japanese manufacturer's like lexus have proven more reliable and better quality than BMW for years now in lower end models. And yes I have driven BMW 3 series many times, just not the new one.
And yea, BMW isn't crap, but it's low models are crap, average, and mediocre compared to same class japanese models. And probably azera, but azera is still new, so nothing's sure yet.
Of course 7 series is better in performance than azera, it should be. It's $50k more. And obviously it's better. Just like how bentley is better than 7 series luxury-wise.
I believe you're thinking of Nissan/Infiniti. Because as of yet they are the only ones I know of that have been able to celebrate beating the 3 series. The E46 BMW 3 series is on par with the G35. Now, the G35 basically being a domesticated Skyline... I wouldn't call being on par "mediocre".Originally Posted by Azera
And as the 335 turbo is brought out, expect the stakes to go higher. BMW will always be a benchmark. I can only think of a few instances where they and the word "mediocre" actually belong in the same sentence.
As for reliability... a BMW requires maintenance. You don't maintain your car, it will fall apart. I have very rarely had any issues with a BMW that could not be fixed fairly quickly. That would ring true with Honda, Nissan, Toyota... same idea.
It's great that Hyundai is coming out with new ideas. I applaud their step forward with the Azera, new Sonata, and obviously the Tiburon... if they would ever support us. But don't use that as an excuse to berate a manufacturer that is recognized for its above average performance and innovation. You can have healthy competition without stooping to the level of the ignorant fool at Auto Mag who got paid off to write that type of statement.
I wasn't pointing out from article. I used to post on bimmerforums quite often and most bimmer owns know BMW 3 series isn't that great as you claim it is. The reason it's benchmark for other automobiles is because BMW has great history in general. If BMW only depended on 3 series, they wouldn't be what they are today. Last 3 series was easily beaten by G35 performance wise. 3 series is not on par with G35. I'm quite sure Lexus IS300 was right on par with 3 series in almost every category though.
BTW azera isn't meant to be a competitor of 3 series, g35, nor any lexus. Hyundai probably made it to go head to head with maxima, avalon, and possibly accord.
So yea, BMW 3 series is good, but the last model has been beaten by previous cars in certain categories, and most of which were even cheaper. While all of this is purely subjective, I believe there are many better choices for the money than 3 series. And yes, I've exaggerated in the "crap" part as it's not really crap, there are much worse cars.
I still take Hyundai Azera over BMW,Nissan,Honda,Toyota etc. because its a new model car. I always wanted to experiance something new and drive something that not many people have. BMW is not special if every second driver own one. Azera is totally new and redesigned so therefore i would pick Azera anytime over BMW,Nissa,Honda, etc....
(Simply, Its just better!)
Yea, I'd take azera over all those companies and same price range. I'd still take 7 series over azera though.
7 series is 7 series. No comparison imo. But azera is probably better interior-wise than altima, maxima, accord, camry, avalon, etc...
