Removing "AZERA" from rear brake light

OK, here's the deal. I have on order from "Korean Imports" "Granduer TG" badges and wheel ceter caps. These will replace the Hundai "H" on the rear of the trunk lid, front grill and all of the wheel center caps. In addition I'm going to remove the words "Hyundai" and "Limited" from the rear trunk. At that point all logos will have been removed / replaced on the car EXCEPT for the following.

    1. Block "AZERA" from the rear trunk / faux brake light area.

    2. Steering wheel / airbag cover.

Now I don't intend to remove the steering wheel logo because I'm afraid of messing with the air bag (unless someone here knows how to do so without damaging anything... and where I could get a TG emblem to place in it's sted without screwing up the airbag function).

BUT, I would like to remove the "AZERA" from the faux rear brake light. So.. quesitons on that..

    1. It looks like the red plastic it sits on has the letters molded into them in reverse, then they glue on the chrome letters. If this is the case I won't be removing it, becuase it would look like crap with the letters popped out and the reverse of the them molded into that piece. Has anyone tried this or done this? Am I correct that the red plastic piece this sits in has the shape of the letters molded into it?

    2. Looks like Korean Imports offers a full replacement piece for this type of job, it entails making it fully functional as it's full of LED's that match the real tail lights and it has "Granduer" already on it in chrome letters. Has anyone tried installing one of these? How dificult is it?

I'm trying to clean up the look and force people to guess "what kind of car is that" so that I can shock them when I tell them it's a Hyundai. Plus I think it would really stand out if compltely rebadeged to look like they do in Korea.

What I've read elsewhere: Dental floss!

Hold the dental floss in both hands, apply it to the top of a letter and s.l.o.w.l.y bring it down to s.l.o.w.l.y work through the adhesive that holds the letters in place. Maybe a little touch-up with some goo-gone or WD-40 afterward if there are any adhesive bits left clinging...

For the Lettering on the back the dental floss is the way to go. But to remove the AZERA lettering on the back break light it is not going to work. The AZERA lettering is glued on much stronger than the Hyundai and Limited Chrome lettering. I looked at it carefully and didn't want to chance trying to remove them.

FYI - the block letters "AZERA" that are on the rear of the car attached to the faux brake light are part of that red plastic piece, even if you tore the Azera letters off it would have the reverse of each letter permanently emblazed in it. So, you can order a replacement piece for your car from Korea that says "GRANDEUR" on it thru www.koreanautoimports.com. They don't list this part on their website yet but if you email them you can buy it. I have this, along with the replacement emblems (that say "grandeur" TG") that replace both exterior Hyundai "H" logos and all the Hyundai "H"'s on the wheel center caps on order from them. Within the next 2 weeks all exterior logos will be either removed or replaced with ones that say TG Grandeur. I'll post pics of the completed ride when done.

Thin fishline (like 5-10lb test) works better than dental floss which shreds in no time...goo-gone to follow on the residual adhesive works like a champ.

Steveefer - good luck with those TG badges from KAI. I have the rear badge on my car and after about a year of sunlight exposure while the car is at work it looks like $h!t. The black background is faded and the plastic "clearcoat" is al crackely like blistering paint. Hopefully you don't live in AZ like I do or someplace else that has hellish summers and 350 days of sunshine per year.

RE: Removing "AZERA" from rear brake light

    Welcome to the forum!

I still remember the month and 1/2 I spent attending a Motorola factory school in Scottsdale in August. My old '77 Honda Accord with its Italian-repaired paint job (driving in Italy, it's not "Will I have an accident?" it's "When will I have an accident!") turned from gold to flushable brown, and I learned to steer my hours-parked-in-the-sun car using only the callused tips of two fingers and two thumbs. Day after day 114° afternoons was an experience...
