    Exhaust upgrade and possible supercharger?

I'd like some input on what some of you have done on your azeras to upgrade them. As the title says, i'm looking to install a supercharger and a performance exhaust to handle said upgrade. Please let me know if any of you have done this in the past and which brands you've gone with for both parts. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the forum!

From earlier looking around the web, I don't recall seeing anything more drastic than installation of an exhaust cat-back system...

Thank you for the welcome. I just recently purchased an 06 azera SE and am trying to tune it a bit. Unfortunately there are not a lot of resources out there in regard to parts, etc., so I am hoping to get some input from members here. I looked into the exhaust and saw the same thing you did. Although, my friend said he saw some on ebay that I should look at. Once I get the specific url, i'll post so that you can take a look.

Somehow the factory has boosted the 3.8L engine's output to 306hp in the Genesis. It might be interesting to see how they did it, since they're still guaranteeing a new one for 100K miles.

Beyond that there's a lot of Honda/Toyota/Nissan/Mitsubishi performance shops that could set up twin turbos for you. Not inexpensive, but it could add some needed torque to the car without destroying drivability/economy. That would impact how you handle the exhaust also; not a whole lot of muffler needed on a turbocharged vehicle, since the turbo(s) grab a bunch of sound energy along with the heat.

How mush power increase is the trans able to handle? Sitting (literally) with 400+hp under the hood and a blown trans won't get you very far! BTDT... no fun!

Don't know your location, but out here in California, the emissions laws make almost all those mods illegal. Good luck.

That's great input, thanks. I know that a lot of the newer Azeras have improved hp and gas mileage to the 280's and about 20/mpg with the valve timing and a 6th gear. Although, I read up about the Genesis and this is what I found.

"The turbocharged, intercooled 2.0-liter engine with Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing balances everyday driving efficiency with generous low-rpm torque. Unlike traditional turbos, it works best at everyday driving speeds and is designed to run on regular unleaded fuel.

The beefy 306-hp 3.8-liter V6 has Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing and a Variable Intake System for both low-end torque and high-end power. The V6 engine has a high performance intake and exhaust system, for more power at all engine speeds, responsive free-revving character and a throaty rumble."

I'm actually in Massachusetts and I think we have similarly strict emissions laws. I remember seeing a stage 1 turbo kit online that would fit an Azera. So, that might be an option, but I didn't think as far as the transmission... Good stuff.

oookayyyy, Well I got a cat-back exhaust with 2 megan MO-OE mufflers and a weapon R short ram intake on my 3.8 ltd. Its fast and sounds very mean, sets of car alarms. Also I talked to the owner of nonstop tuning and he was sure the pully kit they make for the 3.8 genesis will fit the azera also, so that about an extra 10hp. Finally Rhys Millen is you answer for anything turbo, his Formula D genesis makes 605hp with the 3.8 thats been bored to a 4.1, Rhys Millen Racing can for sure help you out. Hope this helped!

I was looking for that weapon r short ram intake but I wasn't able to find one made for the Azera.. Did you get the one for the 3.3 Sonata. I read somewhere that it requires slight modification in order to fit. Also, could you lead me to those MO-OE mufflers and cat-back exhaust you used, i'd like to be sure in a future purchase. The lack of direct online sources with Azera upgrade parts makes Google searches quite frustrating.

Feel free to ask me because I think whithout tooting my own horn I know the most about aftermarket for this car. As far as the Weapon R I am the only one with it, its custom fabricated, It only comes with one metal tube the rest is silicone couplers brackets, the metal tube need about and inch taken off which any shop can do but the inner metal piece of the tube will fall of but it wont hurt it. As far as my exhaust goes I have 2 dual Megan Mufflers ,www.meganracing.com for those. Also I have no secondary cat or resonator, it will give you a nice g37 ish tone, Non Stop Tuning makes a pulley kit for the genesis which fits the azera and gave me a TON of power, it throws me back in my seat. Hope this helped you out, any other question feel free to message me. And yes the intake was the Secret Weapon for the 3.3.
