    Azera died last night!

I had an interesting problem with my 07 Azera Limited Ultimate Saturday night. It has 12,668 miles. I noticed over the past few days that while driving, while the car was at normal operating temperature, when the car was in drive, with the A/C on, stopped, the engine would "surge" between 550 RPM - 1000 RPM. I thought that was nothing major, I was just going to address it at my next oil change.

That was just the beginning of my troubles.

I came to a red light. The "Check Engine" and the "ESC Off" lights came on. The engine started running rough, idling about 1200 RPM. The light turned green, so I hit the gas. Nothing. The car barely moved. I pressed the gas to the floor. Nothing. Luckily I was facing downhill, so I let the car coast into a parking lot where I promptly shut it off and proceed to slam my fist on the steering wheel.

I called Hyundai Roadside assistance, who responded within 30 minutes. They were very helpful. The flatbed picked up my car and towed it to the dealer, who was actually open at 8:00 on a Saturday night. I do love my Hyundai Dealer!!! (really).

I am well known at my dealership, so the General Manager immediately recognized me when I walked in. We have a lot of Hyundais in the family. I explained the problem to him, wrote me up, and gave me a used 2007 Azera Limited (not the Ultimate package like mine, but still nice) with 36,022 miles. It was a former Hertz rental car at the Philly Airport.

Service is closed on Sunday and Monday (Labor Day), so they are going to look at it first thing Tuesday. Being the curious car guy ( I have an ASE Certification), I pulled out my Actron OBDII and proceeded down to the dealer on Sunday night to look at my Azera. It had 3 trouble codes: P2106 (Throttle Actuator Control System- Forced Limited Power), P1295 (either the TPS or another acceleration code) , and P2135 (TPS Correlation).

Apparently, there is a TSB with these EXACT codes. When the dealer looks at the car on Tuesday, I will post an update in case anyone else has this same problem.

    Here is the applicable TSB:

TSB Number & Issue Date TSB Title
    08-FL-004-1 FEB 08 Fuel System - MIL ON DTC's P2135/P2106/P1295 Set

Went to the site and clicked on the TSB, "08-FL-004 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT P2135" and all it gives me is "Revised See 08-FL-004-1" with no link to the revised TSB...

AH! But when I look at a different year Azera (the 2007) I get it!...

Well, the problemwith my Azera was the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). The dealer had to order it, soI got my car back on Friday. runs like a new car again (as it should, with less than 13k miles).

If anyone else has this problem, and the car dies, I learned after the fact that you can shut the car off and re-start it. Then you should get a very limited throttle response which will allow you to drive off the side of the road under your own power, not just coasting downhill to a parking lot like I did.

Hey, I think my girlfriend had this problem about 20 minutes ago driving to work. I thought for her to turn the car on and off and she was able to drive back home. I was just wondering, hopefully if you happen to see this lol, what to do and how much it would cost? Is it covered under the extended warranty ha?

If it's not a "consumable" part, I can't see why it wouldn't be covered...

Mine was definately covered under warranty. As long as you are under 100,000 miles, you should be covered.

Yea, I took it in and they are working on it. It should be under warranty too. Thanks for posting your story it helped me a lot. Odd though, on the way the check light went back off.
