    OEM air intake

Just sniffed around under the hood .... the OEM cold air intake system on the 3.8 is a little different. There is a tube that vents from the radiator cowling. Check it out. There is a plastic cowling taht covers the top of radiator. This cowling collects hot air around the radiator and then there is a tube that attaches to the air intake system. This tube has to send hot air into the factory air intake system. Can anybody figure out why Hyundai would do this?

    RE: OEM air intake

    Welcome to this forum!

Not a clue. I even looked at the workshop and electrical manuals (on a CD ROM) but I didn't see anything regarding this. It would seem counterproductive to add warmed air to the cold-air intake... unless the warmed air had to pass through a go/no go valve and was only allowed into the breather if the ambient temperature was below a certain figure...

The parts are all black, and in very lose proximity to each other. I doubt they would be discernable in a photo. Hard to see well even upclose and in person with good light. If you pop out the 5 or 6 plastic screws across the top of the very front cowling under the hood, just over the top of the radiator, the cowling just pulls up and off. You can then see this hot air intake tube very clearly.

This installation of this kit has a high difficulty rating. Only perform the installation
when the engine is cool. When working on any induction system, be careful not to get any debris in the intake
track. Take care not to scratch the finish with belt buckles or buttons while leaning over the vehicle. After the
installation, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) will automatically recalibrate for the increased air volume. For
