    Hyundai registers record July sales

MARKHAM, ON, Aug. 1, 2012 /CNW/ - Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. announced sales in July of 12,850 units, representing a 0.8% increase over the same month last year. The July sales figure represents a new record for the company. Year-to-date, Hyundai's 84,492 units sold equates to an increase of 3.7% over the first seven months of 2011.

"Despite constrained global supply, demand for Hyundai vehicles remains incredibly strong and has driven our company to record 43 consecutive months of year-over-year sales growth," said Steve Kelleher, President and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. "A number of vehicles were responsible for last month's performance, including the Sonata mid-size, Tucson compact SUV, and the arrival of new vehicles such as the European-style Elantra GT 5-soor and Elantra Coupe."

With sales of 1,940 units in July, the Tucson had its best month since the nameplate was launched in 2004. The Sonata also registered its best July ever with sales of 1,357 units. Further, the company's Certified Pre-Owned vehicle program sold 1,052 units for the month to bring the year-to-date total to 7,393, representing an increase of 242% and 821%, respectively.

In July, Hyundai vehicles consuming 5.0 L/100 km or less represented 46.3% of total sales. The Accent subcompact, Elantra family of compacts, Veloster 3-door coupe, and Sonata Hybrid intermediate sedan all consume fuel at rates of 5.0 L/100 km or less on the highway.
