    Azera fuel efficiency

    Hi folks,
What are your experience with the fuel consumption?
I drove on hw Ottawa-Kingston with average 100km/h
    and I got 8.5l/100km.
In the city it varies between 10 and 13l/100km
in Winter I was getting 14l sometimes.
    How about your azzies?
One more thing...when i park downhill and
hammer down the parking brake....the car is
roling slowly down. Is it ok or does brske need
    a checkup?

On the highway in Canada, I've gotten about 9-10 L/100km. However, in the city (Ottawa), the mileage is terrible....I get around 18L/100km in the winter, and around 14L/100km in summer. I have only 6700 km on my 2006 Azera, so the car may still not be broken in completely. Except for the poor suspension (after replacing front struts), the car is fine.

On a recent 1,100 mile trip(95% highway) I averaged 28.7 mpg. I figured it the old way with actual miles driven divided by gallons of gas. AC on half the time.

100% in city is about 16.5 with air on.

    Welcome to the forum!

In "mixed" driving I manage 21 - 22 mpg, but I haven't yet taken a long drive to see what I can see. 28 - 29 mpg seems to be the likely thing to expect...

My wife drives to work everyday from Costa Mesa to Irvine, Ca. That's close to 8-10mi... She usually averages (city traffic) 20.5mpg.
--> Just got back from Santa Barbara and going up to SB. I checked my MPG when I got to Montecito (our destination) noticed it said 29.7mpg. ---- On the way home to OC. Checked the mpg in Costa Mesa = 31.4mpg. This was with 40 psi (cold) on new BFgoodrich GForce tires. (Have no clue if that had an effect...)

I am getting the 20ish range in town but today we took a trip on the interstate and averaged 26+. I only have 2000 miles on my car and hopefully it will improve over time. I have the 3.8 engine.

Just got back from the first loooong trip... Florida to Duck River, Tennessee to southern New Jersey and back to Florida.

Best mileage was 30.4 mpg through Virginia (no radar detector in use, 65 mph or slower) and in the Washington, DC loop areas (also no radar unit and 55 mph limits and little Sunday traffic). Worst mileage, 16 mpg in the crowded stop-'n'-go Philadelphia metro area...

What? You came through Virginia and didn't stop to say hello?

I heard that there was a second Azera in Virginia several days ago. That must have been yours.

Seriously, if you're ever back through Virginia, you can cruise the 65 mph zones of the interstate highways at 72 mph right thru the radar traps and the police won't give you a second look. In 55 mph zones, you can do 62 mph all day long.

Now, go 10 mph over the limit, and you're going to get a ticket.

Have a radar detector in your car and they throw the key away.

Drink and drive and you're ushered right to the funeral home.

Otherwise, driving through Virginia is not too bad.

Hope your trip was a pleasant one.

Based on earlier reports of the significant difference a few mph less can make in mileage, I'd decided to actually obey the legal limits in VA and see what kind of a difference it would make from my much more customary 75 -78 mph. The difference is about 3 mpg, from 27+ to 30+.

Now, as to the drive. On the way back to Florida, it seemed that every state that had a part of I-95 running through it had decided that this would be a wonderful time to tear it all up and redo it, reserving no more than two and sometimes only one lane for the public to use. Then those states conspired to turn loose a few dozen crazy people and give them drivers' licenses, just to liven things up.

Florida, my own state, outdid itself by providing an accident on I-295 by Jacksonville (which connects to I-10 West), which a trucker advised about on the CB, so I avoided I-295 and took I-95 right into Jacksonville... where they are rebuilding I-95 and I-10! White-knuckling under massive overpasses to nowhere with overhead signs that were placed so you had to look back over your shoulder, I found I-10 west and triumphantly thumbed my nose when passing it's connection to I-295, only to find, in another couple of miles, an ominous sign to "reduce speed" followed by a simply-stated "I-10 is closed" sign.

The I-10 detour was to the original two-lane road (one lane each way) that I-10 had replaced decades ago!

Then, when I finally got to I-75 southbound, and drove down to a mere 30 miles from home, the signs, "Accident ahead, I-75 closed" dashed my hopes and added another hour and 1/4 to my travel as the interstate morning rush-hour traffic was comingled with the secondary road rush-hour traffic between exits 224 and 220. Later I heard that a fuel tanker had plunged off an overpass and exploded and burned, likely causing two or more months' of closed interstate and closed Rt 301 North as the damage is assessed and repaired.

So I'm staying home for a few months and hunkering down and hoping that the cost of diesel fuel doesn't cause all the truckers to quit delivering my groceries, fuel and stuff!

    :P

Oh, wait. I have to drive up to MacDill AFB next week to pick up some meds. I normally use I-75 and drive from exit 200 to exit 228! OK, if I avoid morning and evening rush hours and skip the migrating lunch crowd as I use a combination of old Tamiami Trail and the southern end of Rt 301... hmmm...

    RE: Azera fuel efficincy

My 2007 now has about 9K miles on it. It has slowly improved in gas mileage continuously. When I keep the speed between 65 and 70 mph, it'll average 31 mpg if the road is smooth and fairly level. On a recent trip to the Grand Canyon from Sandy Eggo, it averaged 27 mpg locked on 80 mph by me and 85 mph by my wife. Around town, with lotsa cold starts and short trips it averages 19.5 mpg. These are ALL improvements over the first few thousand miles on the odometer. I have no idea what mileage I'd get if I drove at 55 mph, but I'm sure it would be even better yet. I don't really care enough to drive 55 mph when I'm on freeways, or on a trip somewhere.

I run my tire pressure at 40 psi, mainly for handling (which it improves greatly), but I'm sure it also improves the gas mileage. I noted "smooth" road earlier . . . new asphalt is the best. When the road noise is whisper quiet, I can watch the mileage start to creep up. When it's noisy, the mileage drops. The less contact patch I can put on the road, the better, cuts down on tread scuffing, and offers a slight improvement in distance traveled per tire revolution.

Sitting at traffic signals wastes fuel beyond your wildest imagination. That's why the hybrids do so well, the engine shuts off while the car's not moving.

My weather's very mild in Sandy Eggo. I run 10W-30 oil since my first oil change at 5000 miles.
