    Trunk Lock

There's a button inside the glove box that activates/deactivates the trunk release by the remote. If the button is pushed in, the trunk will respond to the remote. If it's left out, the trunk will NOT respond to the remote, and you can't open it.

HOWEVER, with that glove box button pushed in, if you get out of your car and forget to lock the car, anyone in the world can walk up to your trunk and open it by hand by simply reaching under the recess and pulling back on the small metal plate there. Consequently, your trunk is fair game to anyone in the event you leave your car unlocked. That's the damnedest thing I've ever seen (next to the un-programmed door locks from the factory, a 5-speed transmission where the 5th gear isn't even an overdrive, and a lengthy make-up-its-mind hesitation when stomping on the gas to pass).

I hope I've missed something and someone can tell me how to keep the trunk locked without locking the car, yet have the trunk be responsive to the remote.

Nope, you've about covered it! Either provide extra trunk protection by using the glove-box switch (which will also disable the driver's door trunk release) and use your key to unlock the trunk when necessary, or leave the little switch enabled and remember to lock your car when leaving it...

There is a TSB for a 2nd --> 1st gear down shift problem... It had helped a lot for my car... good luck.

Have always locked the car, even to run into a convenience store. Even if the trunk were locked separately, access to the trunk is as easy as folding down either rear seat.

    RE: Trunk Lock

Regarding the trunk locking thing, maybe it ain't so bad. There isn't another car in the world built during the last 60 years whose trunk could be opened without a key or a remote (talking sedans here, not SUV's or hatch backs). Even though the Azera can (if you forget to lock the car), no one (including most of the few Azera owners there are) will even know it's possible. I discovered it quite by accident by pulling up on it simply to make sure it was properly closed only to have it click open for me.

Regarding the down-shift and acceleration hesitation, I'm going to call the local dealer to find out what's what. It's not a 2nd to 1st down shift I'm looking for. It's a 45 mph + downshift and acceleration I'm interested in for ass-blasting past someone, or making that rare but important jump into a faster moving lane. I've only experienced the hesitation twice as I've only needed to do this twice over the last 4-5 months. But, when you need it and don't get it, it's REALLY scary.

Regarding the downshift issue, are you trying to downshift manually with the Shiftronic, or waiting for the automatic to kick in by itself when you hit the accelerator?

It fixes all the shifting issues. Have it applied when you go into service...
