Cold Weather - Defrost Button Activated

Now that the weather is turning colder up north (Canada), I have noticed that the defrost button lights up when starting the car, when the temperature is about 10 degrees Celsius or lower. There is some blowing of cool air through the defrost vents until the temperature guage moves off its detent. Then the defrost turns off, and normal non-AC action takes place.

Has anyone else noticed this? The owners guide doesn't mention this action, so I'm thinking this is not normal. I've tried all the standard ways to reset this function, but it still comes on as I mentioned.

    Stan

Not that I'm ever likely to be in a position to duplicate that ambient temperature (), but if you hit the "OFF" button in the cluster before turning off the car at the end of the day?...

Mine does it too if I leave the car in the driveway, but now that I have a new house with a garage it wont.

Regarding "Defrost", the owner's manual discusses the far left defrost button, but is silent about the button right next to it which is also labeled defrost. ?????

Which one of those two buttons (if either) activates the heating wires in the rear window? Nothing in the book mentions the rear window heating wires.

The defrost button on the left controls the windshield defrost/defog. The defrost button immediately to the right, also labeled "defrost" but with a slightly different shaped icon, is for the rear window. It also operates the heated rear view side mirrors. At least that's how it works on the '07 Limited. Pages 1-133, 1-87, and 1-100 respectively in the manual.

Thanks for the response. I AM an owner's manual reader - I don't look for it just to throw it away. I thought I looked hard enough, but apparently not. I've gotten far more information off this forum than out of this owner's manual.

Thanks again. It's the rear window wires I wanted to heat up the other night.
