    Question Dashboard Cracking!?!?

    Hey everyone-

Thought I would share some super sad news about my wifes 2006 Limited.

My wife noticed the crack in the dash that I had no clue of at all. This pissed me off since I have a 10 year old Volvo S90 with a perfect dash which has seen Armor All (worst stuff) and other cleaners yet looks flawless?

Just to let everyone know the dealer said, "I shouldn't use any chemicles on the dash this is why it cracked? Or I should buy there custom made window shades."
Ummmm.... I felt like Mike Tyson about to bite a ear off after I was told this...!!

Okay here are the photos of her dash. This is a dash that only sees a SWIFTER and NOTHING else:

**If you notice this crack is tracing the Airbag "exit door."

Wide View of dashboard, you do not even have to point it out now...

    --

Notice how Deep this is (you can see foam)? Notice how it is a stretching tear not a "cut!" And why does it turn left? Cause it is following the thin outline of the airbag door!!

    --

Factory photo shows the airbag deploying at the top of dashboard.

    ------------------------
    What does everyone think?

Let me know if anyone has information please! Thanks

Hi, I have had this problem. The Dealer told me that they have had a few Sonata's with this problem, but this was the first Grandeur... Due to the cut line under the dash for the airbags.
The fitted a new dash pad under warranty.
    Regards

Ahhhhh... Thanks so much for that great information. I will try another dealership and see what they say or call Hyundai direct.
How long was your car down for replacing the dash pad?

Thanks again... KEEP the INFO coming...

I took my car in on Thursday morning, then picked up Friday afternoon. It's a big job. I also had a 15000km service.

Oh sounds good. I passed on the offer for the 15k service. All they really were going to do is, rotate tires, fluid top off, diff oil check and flush the trans fluid for $179 (seemed high). Which I had a friend do at his Mercedes Dealership...

Did your service writer give you any grief when you told him what was happening?

    Thanks in advance OZ...

    Cheers,

What a bummer! Just out of curiosity, do you live in a hot climate? There's no excuse for the dash cracking like that, but I wonder if the sun could be the culprit.

Well I live in Costa Mesa, CA (next to Newport Beach) and the weather is very stable @ 71-84max. I think more people would have this issue if heat was the cause maybe? Just my thought...
I have made a appointment to a NEW dealership and I will update everyone with the outcome.

Thanks for the great info and feedback everyone keep it coming.

PS: KEEP your eyes out on your dashboards folks!

    Take Care,
