My 06 Azera's rear sunshade has a snapped cable. The motor works, and it goes up and down most of the time (I keep it down now). Dealer says it is a torsion cable to keep everything aligned. $800 to fix!![]()
Any experiences with this issue?

First I've heard mention of a cable, all previous problems with the rear sunshade have related to the plastic drive gears. There was a TSB which indicated replacement with a heftier gear upon failure...
Wow, $800 ! The part itself can't cost that much, so the balance has to be labor. A lot to be said for the manual types after seeing that figure.
Had early failure of our rear sunshade, followed by reluctant & prolonged dealer's warranty repair, itself soon followed by another failure, and more dealer reluctance to repair on warranty. It stays switched 'off' since then! Will look into repairing/modifying it myself, 'when I have time someday'. I know, it sounds pathetic, but even that's more enthusiastic than any of the Hyundai dealers around here have been on ANY warranty issues, except the announced RECALL on the airbag/belt pre-tensioner thing. No personal knowledge on shade's cable or any other specific monkey-motion linkage; dealer wouldn't say.
Crazy as it sounds, I actually thought that Hyundai had probably evolved the Azera into a fairly refined form by 2006, since they'd been pimping it as the "Grandeur" in Asia for several years, and especially since they took care to manufacture it 'at home' in Korea, not B.F.E. or Alabama. WRONG!!! It might as well be a GM product, with all its auxiliary componentry jobbed out to the lowest bidder (i.e., the struts, etc. from Rando, in India; or was that "by Ronco...As seen on TV"?).
End of rant. OK, back to the wonderful rear shade thing-a-ling. $800. is a whole bunch. Good luck with that.
Hyundai really took off after roughly 2010 with all their new models seem i be really killing it, but i do see issues in tehir build qulaity here and there. i mean they have come a long way after all, and only being in the auto motive industry for such a short period of time, but give it some more time they are still growing.
